Momentum Whangamatā is part of Momentum Waikato, one of 17 Community Foundations in New Zealand.
With a Community Foundation, the funds gifted can be invested alongside other funds, with the interest given to the nominated charities or causes, or the funds can be 'passed through' over the number of years nominated by the donor. In other words, it's all about honouring a donor's wishes.
Community Foundations can also take receipt of other assets, and indeed, many Kiwis have chosen to bequeath buildings, properties and farms amongst other things.
What this reveals is that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to how people want to gift.
However, there is something that is universal, and that is the satisfaction that generous people experience when they choose to gift through their local Foundation. To know that your bequeath or living gift will be secure, and that you are in control of its distribution is unlike anything that has happened before. Michelle Crook comes to Momentum Whangamata with deep experience in marketing consultancy, strategic advisory services and fundraising including three significant multi million dollar capital raises.
After moving from Tauranga to Whangamatā in 2020, Michelle joined the Eastern Coromandel Community Services Trust in 2021 and became the Chair in 2022. She is also an Honorary Trustee for the Whangamatā Community Marae Trust, and she serves on the national Special Olympics NZ Foundation as a Trustee.
Michelle has a long history of service in the not-for-profit sector, including numerous governance roles, and in 2020 she was appointed as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Years' Honours list.
